About QIMR Berghofer:

QIMR Berghofer is a world-leading translational medical research institute focused on improving health by developing new diagnostics, better treatments and prevention strategies, specifically in the areas of cancer, infectious diseases, mental health and chronic disorders. Based in Herston, Brisbane and working in close collaboration with clinicians and other research institutes, QIMR Berghofer is home to more than 600 scientists, students and support staff.

About the Laboratory:

The Functional Cancer Genomics and Functional Genetics Laboratories collaborate to identify and characterise novel long noncoding RNAs involved in breast and ovarian cancer development. Collectively we have a dynamic group of post-docs, bioinformaticians, research assistants and students. This project would focus on using high-throughput CRISPR-based screens and molecular methods to identify long noncoding RNAs that modulate the hallmarks of breast and ovarian cancer.

Role Purpose / Responsibilities:

Applications are invited for an experienced molecular biologist to join an established research team to evaluate how noncoding RNAs contribute to breast and ovarian cancer development.

Essential:

  • PhD qualification and extensive experience in molecular techniques including (but not limited to):
  • Tissue culture of normal and tumour cell lines, cytotoxicity and proliferation assays
  • Animal handling, tumour growth assays, orthotopic and subcutaneous cancer models
  • RNA sequencing, RNA/DNA extraction, library preparation
  • CRISPR screening, library guide design and synthesis, establishment of CRISPR-competent cells.
  • Molecular biology techniques such as cloning, Western immunoblotting, ELISA assays, immunoprecipitation, immunofluorescence, PCR techniques, flow cytometry.
  • Computational biology analyses of RNAseq, ChIPseq and CRISPR experiments.

You are expected to have:

  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, including the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and evaluate the literature, and make an experimental plan.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate and reliable scientific records.
  • Exceptional organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and coordinate tasks.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft suite (especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and consultation skills.

Remuneration: Salary range is $88,849 to $95,329 p.a. plus super and salary packaging. This is a full time appointment for two years with opportunity to extend if funding is available.
