About QIMR Berghofer:

QIMR Berghofer is a world-leading translational medical research institute focused on improving health by developing new diagnostics, better treatments and prevention strategies, specifically in the areas of Cancer, Infection and Inflammation, Brain and Mental Health, and Population Health. Based in Herston, Brisbane and working in close collaboration with clinicians and other research institutes, QIMR Berghofer is home to more than 600 scientists, students and non-research staff.

Infection and Inflammation Program

The Infection and Inflammation program comprises 20 research groups operating within three main themes; Chronic Inflammation, Global and Emerging Health Challenges, and Spatial Technologies and Machine Learning. We are seeking a scientific or clinical leader with innovative research programs; a complementary skill set and technological expertise who is willing to work as part of a larger program to tackle important human health problems.

The successful applicant will join our faculty and be expected to participate in the effective running of the Program through collaboration, committee involvement, as well as contributing to funding applications for Program themes.

What are we looking for?

We are currently seeking to employ an outstanding independent (early or mid-career) researcher or clinician with a track record of success in publications and attracting externally competitive grant funding.  We are particularly interested in hearing from experts working on topics of strategic relevance to our program in the following research areas:

  • Viral evolution and pathogenesis
  • Virus-host interactions
  • Immunity to infection
  • Epigenetic regulation of immune cell function
  • Chronic inflammation
